Doing Collections Management in the Government Sector: A Brownbag Session

June 27

The specificities of working in the government sector shape the various possibilities on how cultural work, specifically collections management, can be performed by its practitioners. Various factors—such as strategic mandates, organizational structures, legal processes, property management, financial constraints, and the like—oftentimes dictate how museum workers see and treat the collections that their institutions own or keep. This brownbag session gathers representatives (curators, registrars, collections officers, faculty-in-charge, and the like) from the different museums in the university that handle, care for, and exhibit artworks to discuss common issues faced and current practices performed in response to or in navigation around these. Various museums from the other constituent units and other government agencies with art collections were also invited in this session to learn more about various ways-of-working in different contexts.
