June 11, 2016June 25, 2016

Sa Timyas ng Paglaya is an exhibition of works by political prisoners: activists arbitrarily arrested, detained, and facing either political or false criminal charges for their work in community organizing among the poor. They are among the 543 political prisoners are currently held captive by the state.

The exhibit features 130 works—ranging from paintings to handicrafts and poetry—by Rene Boy Abiva, Tirso Alcantara, Sandino Esguerra, Renante Gamara, Voltaire Guray, Alan Jazmines, Maricon Montajes, Billy Morado, Hermogenes Reyes Jr., Gerald Salonga, Eduardo Sarmiento, Randy Vegas and Rex Villaflor. Retrieved from prisons and personal collections throughout Manila, Cagayan, Batangas, Bicol, and Samar, the works hold a wealth of stories about the struggle within and against captivity, on both personal and collective scales.
