As a resource center, the Bulwagan ng Dangal envisions itself to gather narratives and materials from various members of the UP Diliman community and to make these accessible to a larger public.
The first step in realizing this vision was taken in 2018, when the Bulwagan ng Dangal, in partnership with the University’s Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts, started preparing for the exhibition “Lupang Hinirang: Mga Kuwento ng Pagsasalugar ng UP Diliman.” The exhibition included materials taken from an oral history project participated by pioneer residents, faculty, staff, administration, students, and alumni of the university. It opened in 2019, as part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the transfer of the Oblation from Ermita to Diliman and as the final exhibition of the Bulwagan in its physical space at the Southwing basement. A virtual version was released the year after.

As a proof-of-concept of the community archive, the museum’s 2024 exhibition “Ugnayan: Mga Kuwento ng Talában sa Pamayanang UP Diliman,” that commemorates the 75th anniversary of the transfer of the Oblation from Ermita to Diliman, put up listening booths of mostly raw snippets of interview correspondences with members of the community from often underrepresented groups.
Announcement to Researchers
The museum is in the process of developing the community archive.
The university’s 493-hectare land is home for a wide range of individuals and groups. The museum envisions to continue its effort to gather stories from various members of the UP Diliman community to arrive at a more complex picture of the university as a place for studying, working, and living.
Alongside this, the Bulwagan aims to design the community archive and its operationalization following established standards in archival practice.
